Krakow May 30 - June 1, 2010. A problem of the ‘borderline ventricles’ in pediatric cardiology and cardiac surgery still remains challenging both in terms of diagnostic criteria and surgical options. Pre-operative determination whether the ventricle is adequate to sustain the systemic or pulmonary circulation, or it may become adequate with the available surgical approaches, can be extremely difficult in the presence of a ‘borderline ventricle’. In each patient with such defect the elements to be considered for the decision making process between uni- and bi-ventricular type of repair, or for less ideal options of management, are: morphologic and functional parameters, hemodynamic data, surgical options and results of the particular approach. We would like to focus on all issues related to both right and left ‘borderline ventricles’ from prenatal diagnosis through planning of strategy and evaluating criteria, morphology and pathophysiology to surgical options available and postoperative management in early and late period |
